Life Lessons from the Road (A to Z)
Nicaragua: "The Enemy of Fear!"
I started with the letter A and will go to Z focusing on a nation or island group, and what I learned in that place. If you are looking for perfection then just read the Words of Jesus in the New Testament of the Bible. I'm only a pilgrim that has and is still on a journey with Jesus. He is constantly working on me like a potter does the clay. Welcome to the potter's house!
The Enemy of Fear!
On my walk with the cross around the world as I was going from North America to South America I came upon the civil war in Nicaragua. Not carrying the cross in my mind was never in question. One night I was taken out to be shot before a firing squad. This is told and recreated in the movie “The Cross.” In a mighty miracle of God the gunman were struck to the ground by God. He preserved me to keep walking on in His mission of carrying the cross in every nation and major inhabited island group.
I've had to come to grips with fear. I had a stroke before I left Hollywood to begin the walk around the world. From the hospital bed I made a decision I'd rather die in the will of God than live outside of it. This too is shown in The Cross movie. Now, God willing, it's forty two years later, fifty two wars later, hid by cars, faced millions of cars as I walked the roadsides of the world, been in jail 24 times and been blown into a car by a car bomb. Nevertheless, October 27 of this month, God willing, I will be 70 years old and heading off to another war next month to carry the cross in one of the most dangerous places on earth.
I'm no fool. I majored in history. I've walked around the world and been with some of the most infamous people and groups on earth during the past years. Carried the cross through the world's most dangerous places. But the call of Jesus is stronger than the fear of not doing His will. Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments!” I love Jesus! I want to and I must obey His call. My wife Denise and my daughter Sophia will be going with me next month and they will wait at a certain point. My son Joshua who you saw in the movie the cross as a 12 year old boy with me in the war in Lebanon and with Yasser Arafat is now 39 years old with a wife and two young children. They are evangelist living in Norway. We were talking and then he called back and said that Jesus wanted him to go with me to carry the cross and share Jesus in that deadly place. So he is flying to meet us and go in with me. I feel so at peace to have him with me. I believe he is the most effective and fearless young evangelist in the world.
Why do we go and carry the cross into the valley of the shadow of death? Because of the call of Jesus and the fact is these people need Jesus. They are no different from others. I have been with the toughest gangs and terrorist and they too feel and hurt and love and fear and thirst for the living Jesus. They just don't know who to believe and how they can know and if there is another way that is real and can they be forgiven.
From the bars when I was a child to the streets of Hollywood to the wars of the world I have gone to deliver the love of Jesus and speak the Words of Life and invite people to repent and know Jesus as their Savior and Lord. I'm not stopping now!!!!!
One must focus on the call and be willing to take the consequences! Rest in the sovereignty of God. I'm just telling you how I seek to live out the mission of God in the face of dangers and death. Should I not make it back I know where I'm going.
Each person must make their own choices.
The Cure: Love! “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear has torment. He that fears is no made perfect in love.” (1 John 4:18) In God's perfect love there is no fear of death or the after life. No fear of sins for they are cleansed by Jesus. There is no fear of the will of God for your life is complete trust in God.
“Ask Jesus to fill your heart with the perfect love of God and trust in Him. Now, go, live, share Jesus, live in God's love & faith with peace & rest…with No Fear! Jesus is with you Always! It's that Simple.”
Receive Jesus, follow Jesus and fear not.
