The Lord of Hosts!

The Lord of Hosts

Used about 260 times in the O.T. and twice in the N.T. I will help you understand the meaning, the power and the glory of the Lord of Hosts that you may see the mighty works of God in your life and in our world.

Hosts – From tsaba (tsaw-baw’) army, war, warfare, a mass of persons (or figuratively, things), especially reg. Organized for war (an army); by implication, a campaign, literally or figuratively

The NIV uses the word Almighty and a few others. The Hebrew word for Almighty is Shadday (shad-dah’-ee) This is ‘not’ the word for Hosts. It is used in other scriptures.

First time the use of “Lord of Hosts”

1 Samuel 1:3 “Now this man used to go up year by year from his city to worship and to sacrifice to the Lord of Hosts at Shiloh, where the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests of the LORD.”

“Jehovah Sabaoth or Tsaba,” Lord of hosts.

Isaiah uses it about 60 times and Jeremiah about 80 times.

saba?th (the Greek transliteration of the Hebrew term, b???h, tsaba OT) – host(s), an innumerable throng (limitless company). saba?th(“the Lord of hosts“) only occurs in Ro 9:29 and Js 5:4, and correlates to the familiar phrase, “the Lord of hosts” in the OT

“Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. James 5:4

(And as Isaiah predicted, “If the Lord of hosts had not left us offspring, we would have been like Sodom and become like Gomorrah. Romans 9:291:3

Jehovah of Hosts, Jehovah of tsaba. This is the first time this phrase appears in the Bible. Some few times it is the God of hosts, and the remainder are Jehovah of hosts. Tsaba means a mass of persons or things, especially an army organized for war. The hosts of the heavens, Genesis 2;1, encompassing all heavenly bodies and angels. Jehovah is Lord over all the hosts in the heavens and in the earth. Beginning with Samuel, He is known as Jehovah of Hosts.) Notes of Heritage Bible, Dr. Gwen Turner.

Psalm 24!!!!

The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

For He hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in His holy place?

He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

This is the generation of them that seek Him, that seek Thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.

Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

Who is this King of glory? The Lord of Hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah.

Our Redeemer, the Lord of Hosts is His name, The Holy One of Israel.” Isaiah 47:4

“In that day the Lord of Hosts will be a crown of glory, and a diadem of beauty, to the remnant of His people.” Isaiah 28:5

Diaddem – a jeweled crown or headband worn as a symbol of sovereignty

The Lord of Hosts is revealed in the New Testament as Jesus Christ!

All the power and glory expressed in the Name Lord of Host in the Old Testament is step by step shown to be also in Jesus.

Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies but also showed His power over all creation.

Jesus is revealed as Creator, The Word, The Light, The Truth, The Way, The Judge etc. Jesus showed that He is the Living Bread, The Living Water, and we are to drink (His Blood). He is Life…Eternal Life.

Jesus forgave sins! Jesus raised the dead! Jesus healed the sick! Jesus stopped the storms. Jesus walked on the water. Jesus cast out Demons. Jesus opened the eyes of the blind. Jesus knew everything in the hearts of the people. Jesus could have called 12 legions of angels. ( a Roman legion was 6,000 men. 12 would be 72,000 angels. Jesus could have called, million or billions or more. He was declaring that He, Jesus was the Lord of Hosts!)

Jesus overcame all the temptations of Satan. He won victory over sin, death and the grave. Jesus died but came back to Life! Alive and Risen.

Jesus ascended into heaven and is seated at the right Hand of the Father.

The scripture speaks of the judgment seat of Christ.

We see the angels, Gabriel and the hosts of heaven involved in the Birth of Jesus. Matthew 1st and 2nd chapters and Luke 1st and 2nd chapters.

Lord Jesus Christ, the I AM, descending from heaven with his powerful angels. Also innumerable angels giving glory and honor to Jesus.  2 Thessalonians 1:7; Matthew 16:27-28; 25:31-34 and other scriptures, Revelation 5, 6, 7,14’ chapters and also in other scriptures.

The angels involved as the Lord Jesus Christ executes the final judgement Matthew 13:41-50; 24:30-31 and other scriptures.

We do hear the angels rejoicing over our human salvation in Christ Luke 15th chapter; Hebrews 12th chapter and other scriptures.

Revelation 19th – 22nd chapter reveals Jesus ruling and in glorious power in the end times and in the New Heaven and New Earth.

The all-encompassing power and authority of the Lord of hosts is attributed to the Lord Jesus Christ. Of him the apostles wrote:

‘(God) raised Him (Jesus) from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come’ Ephesians 1:20,21

‘For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him’       Colossians 1:1

‘Christ, who is the head over every power and authority’  Colossians 2:10

‘And again, when God brings His firstborn into the world, He says, “Let all God’s angels worship Him”’ Hebrews 1:6

Jesus Christ: is the Lord of Hosts.

When you pray in the Name of Jesus you unleash all the power in the Name ‘the Lord of Hosts’.

Jesus is able to do as He wills! We can trust Him completely! Amen

Over and over, thousands of time while carrying the cross around the world I have called out the Name of the Lord of Hosts! Jesus help me, lead me, deliver me, strengthen me. Show me Your way!
